What if I have a few questions?
WHAT'S INVOLVED IN BOOKING A WEDDING?
If location allows for it, I'd love to meet with you. I want to know who I'm working with, just as you should want to know who you're hiring. A $250 deposit and a signed contract will reserve your date. About one month before your wedding I will contact you to discuss the timeline of your day. The remaining balance of your package is due two weeks before the date. A week prior, we will finish the final touches on the details for your special day and then you'll see me at the start of your day as you're getting ready. I try to keep it easy and simple for you.
DO I GET TO CHOOSE THE SONG FOR MY VIDEO?
For weddings, I take the creative initiative in choosing the music based on what I filmed and the feeling of the day. For each song I use for a video, I need to purchase the music license for it. Many mainstream songs are not available to buy, but there are lots of awesome choices on websites for videographers like me. Make sure you are choosing a videographer who is buying music for your video LEGALLY!
DO YOU TAKE PHOTOS, TOO?
I am not a professional photographer. I take some amateur photos here and there but my real passion is video, both the filming and the editing process. But without a doubt, someone at your wedding will ask me to take their picture. Happens every time.
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ON YOUR TEAM?
Right now, I'm a one woman show. My awesome husband Mark will assist me if it's possible based on the schedule. He's my second shooter if you choose the #3 package, which includes two videographers. He has taken some great video over the years and has a great eye. But even when I'm solo, I'm quick on my feet and quiet to get the most footage with the least amount of disruption possible.
DO YOU TRAVEL?
Yes! There will be a $50 travel fee for every 50 miles outside of Homer, NY I need to travel. If your event requires me to stay overnight, such as, you've booked me for a full day of filming and your event is more than one hour away from my home, hotel accommodations may have to be covered. Please check with me if an overnight would be required. I try my best not to stay overnight, as I have two kids I like to wake up with and have waffles with in the morning!
DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR YOUR MEAL AT MY WEDDING?
I ask that you have a meal for me to eat when you are eating, so I don’t miss anything. Please coordinate this with your venue or caterer.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO SEE MY WEDDING FILM?
I typically get highlight videos back within 1 week and full ceremony edits back within 2 weeks. Because life sometimes can happen and I'd like a little cushion if that occurs, on the contract it will state that it will take no longer than 3-5 weeks.
Chances are, you have booked your photographer before you get to securing a videographer. Either way, here's something for you to consider: your photographer's flash. If your photographer is a natural light photographer, you will not be getting a lot of flashes throughout your video, awesome right?! Yes! Obviously photographers do have to use flash at certain points throughout the day (I need to use a light at the reception as well!) but the less flash the better. And natural light usually produces better photo anyway!
GET YOUR GROOM ON THE SAME PAGE!
If you want to write cards to each other for the day of the wedding or do a Q&A for the video, TELL YOUR GROOM! I can't tell you how many times I've surprised a groom and put him on the spot because he has no idea his bride signed him up for this video stuff. Videos always come out better when a groom is on board with getting a wedding video and even excited about it.
TIME FOR HANGING
Most likely, family photos are going to take longer than you expect. Generally, we don't have a lot of time between the end of the ceremony and introductions to your reception. Consider which family portraits are most important for you to get, AND GET THEM! I'm not suggesting you don't do family photos. I'm suggesting making sure you block out enough time for just you and your new husband or wife to be together. Notice I didn't say, "enough time for bride & groom portraits." When we do stuff for video, I don't really do any posed stuff. I just try and make you and your new spouse as comfortable as possible and make it feel like we're all just hanging out laughing together. I need about 10 minutes to hang out and laugh with you to get awesome shots for your video. Consider how important that is for you along with family portraits & group shots.
TELL YOUR VENUE YOU WANT ME TO EAT WHEN YOU EAT
Here's the deal: when me, your photographer, and your DJ or band eats at the same time you do, we're ALL ready to get back to work when you're done eating. The dancing starts on time, you're getting photos with you and your guests, everyone is ready to go. It just makes sense.
